Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems

Have you ever felt like different parts of you are pulling in opposite directions? One part wants to take a risk, while another part feels frozen in fear. Or maybe a part of you longs for connection, but another part feels the need to keep people at a distance. These inner conflicts are common, and they’re a natural part of how we navigate life. Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is a compassionate, evidence-based approach that helps you make sense of these inner “parts” and work with them to find harmony and healing.

IFS views the mind as being made up of different subpersonalities or “parts,” each with its own feelings, needs, and roles. Some parts may hold pain or trauma, while others step into protective roles to keep you safe. For example, you might have a part that criticizes you to prevent failure or a part that numbs your feelings to avoid discomfort. Beneath all these parts is your core Self—a calm, wise, and compassionate presence capable of leading your inner system. The goal of IFS is to help you connect with this Self so you can create a more balanced and peaceful relationship with your parts.

In therapy, we gently explore these parts, building trust and understanding with each one. By listening to what your parts need and why they act as they do, we can help them release old burdens and take on healthier roles. This process allows you to experience more emotional freedom, deepen your self-awareness, and connect more authentically with others. Whether you’re healing from trauma, navigating anxiety or depression, or simply looking to understand yourself better, IFS provides a powerful framework for lasting growth and transformation.
